Abstract

The Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is a typical area of dry farming, where the water shortage is the key factor obstructing development of agriculture and husbandry and the main cause of people's poverty. The "112" Rainwater Harvesting and Irrigation Project (one family with one water tank for irrigating two Mu (0.067 hm2) cultivated land) has been implemented in Zhunge'er and Qingshuihe Counties. The rainwater collection efficiency, types of water tank and the construction method, irrigation scheduling and methods as well as the economic assessment have been studied during project implementation.
