PIV - Particle Image Velocimetry
PIV is the recently developed technique for fluid velocity measurements. It has advantages over other fluid velocity measurement techniques, these are:-
The Principle of PIV This technique is two-dimensional and produces two component velocity maps of a plane. The flow is seeded with small particles, then the plane of interest is pulsed with laser light. The multiple images of particles in the plane are captured on camera and then analysed. Then with the use of information from timing tests the velocities of the particles are captured. Fig.1 Particle image recording in PIV Determining the velocity vector in one grid. Fig.2 Schematics of PIV image analysis. Dividing into grids and determination of particle moving displacement is illustrated |
